  6. This is to announce Apple II Kermit Version 3.85 for Apple II DOS and ProDOS,
  7. which replaces version 3.84 of August 1988, from Ted Medin,
  8. MEDIN-T@SHARK.NOSC.MIL.  The major changes include:
  9.  
  10.  - Improved performance on Apple II's with interrupt-driven communications
  11.    (most systems //e+ or later).
  12.  - A new "set timing" command, to allow adjustment to internal clocks of
  13.    different speeds.
  14.  - A new "type" command for displaying local files without leaving Kermit.
  15.  - The "help" command now displays an external help file that you can change
  16.    without rebuilding the program itself.
  17.  - An escaping mechanism for sending special characters to the modem.
  18.  - A revised manual. 
  19.  
  20. The new files are in app*.* in the various Kermit Distribution areas, and can
  21. be ordered on Kermit Tape A.  Many thanks to Ted for his continued efforts in
  22. developing and supporting this program.

  31. This is to announce Apple II Kermit Version 3.86 for Apple II DOS and ProDOS,
  32. which replaces version 3.85 of January 1989, from Ted Medin,
  33. MEDIN-T@SHARK.NOSC.MIL.  The major changes include:

  35.    1. ProDos QUIT is fixed
  36.    2. VT-100 emulation bug fixes
  37.    3. The program now works on the Apple//c+ now works
  38.    4. Blinking cursor when connected
  39.    5. Connect escape menu now has MODEM and QUIT added
  40.    6. Better handling of illegal characters in received filenames
  41.    7. Wildcard file transfer SEND no longer misses files
  42.    8. New installation procedure
  43.    9. New Apple Cat serial card driver
  44.   10. New file management commands LOCK, UNLOCK, and RENAME added
  45.   11. GET & SEND commands now allow two filespecs so one can change the name
  46.   12. Revised documentation, available in both ASCII and Postcript form
  47.  
  48. The changes are listed in more detail in the file APPAAA.NEW, along with
  49. credits to those who supplied new code, reported bugs, and so forth, including
  50. Ralph Carpenter, Les Ferch, Steve Kunz, Klaus Schnathmeier, and Dick Wotiz.

  64. new release:

  66.   1. Decimal numbers allowed in lots of places.
  67.   2. Screen restore on "connect" for //e or better.
  68.   3. Kermit file attributes are handled.
  69.   4. Percent of file transferred where possible (file attributes required).
  70.   5. Lots of bug fixes (will we ever get the vt100 right :-)
  71.   6. Kermit protocol bug fixes.
  72.   7. Escape character "\" can be used in file names for file xfers.
  73.   8. Show volumes - (ProDos only) shows the prefixes of the online volumes.
  74.   9. Escape V - When connected will toggle cursor-keys-vt100.
  75.  10. Some vt102 printer codes are handled - don't expect much.
  76.  11. New driver for the Ace dual card.  Thanks to Andy Tefft.
